Signature Senior Lifestyle partners with Care Campaign for the Vulnerable (CCFTV)
Spearheaded by Jayne Connery, Care Campaign for the Vulnerable (CCFTV) calls for the mandatory use of independently reviewed safety monitoring camera technology in all care homes.
Signature Senior Lifestyle is sponsoring CCFTV for a full year starting September 2023; this new partnership builds on a six-month joint project which has seen CCFTV and Signature work together to pilot safety monitoring technology in dementia residents’ bedrooms at Signature at Reigate Grange. During the pilot, Care Protect safety monitoring system was installed at the home, with all cameras monitored independently via care professionals and always-on AI technology that can automatically detect potential incidents – allowing an enhanced level of oversight and reassurance for residents, their loved ones, and carers.
Our trial at Signature at Reigate Grange
Having experienced the benefits of safety monitoring technology first-hand – and heard the positive feedback of residents, families, and colleagues at Reigate Grange – Signature Senior Lifestyle is now keen to provide practical support to Care Campaign for the Vulnerable campaign to drive best practices throughout the care sector. Safety monitoring technology offers enhanced safeguarding and deterrence and acts as a valuable training tool to provide personalised coaching and one-to-one video analysis. Colleagues involved in the pilot at Reigate Grange welcomed the introduction of monitoring technology as an effective means of identifying and rewarding their exemplary interactions with Residents.
Following a highly successful six-month pilot project in Spring 2023, Signature has launched a group-wide rollout of its award winning Safety Monitoring technology in Autumn 2023. This initiative will see CCTV cameras installed in the apartments of residents living with dementia at all ten of our homes by the end of 2024. The scheme then operates on an opt-in basis, allowing residents and families to receive 24/7 independent video and audio monitoring.
The initiative is delivered in partnership with Care Protect, who provide the technology, and Care Campaign for the Vulnerable, which supports the creation of resident and family policies. Since launching with a 100% opt-in rate at its first home, Signature Senior Lifestyle’s Safety Monitoring technology has received an exceptionally high opt-in rate with families expressing high levels of reassurance and carers valuing the tool for coaching and mentoring.
As well as boosting safety, the initiative helps support an enhanced understanding of the care needs of residents with complex dementia, builds family and community trust through demonstrable transparency, and enables carers to seek personalised mentoring and coaching to improve their skills.
Signature’s Leading Safety Monitoring Project Wins at the Care Home Awards
Signature has won the prestigious “Best Use of Technology and Digital Care Strategy” accolade at the Care Home Awards 2024. The award recognises Signature Senior Lifestyle’s industry leading group-wide rollout of Safety Monitoring technology across our homes – a pioneering initiative demonstrating our commitment to resident safety, provider accountability, service excellence, and innovation.
Kay Cox, Chief Executive Officer at Signature Senior Lifestyle, said: “Safety monitoring technology is an invaluable tool to support the development of caring and safe environments. Jayne’s campaign has helped us develop a tailored safety monitoring pilot programme, which has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from those living and working in the home. The safety monitoring technology has been game-changing in our ability to provide truly personalised care and employee coaching.
“We are proud to support Jayne’s campaign to make it mandatory that all care homes offer their residents the option to use safety monitoring technology, and we will be working with her to drive the campaign forward. We are also working to expand our safety monitoring pilot to encompass our other homes as we strive to provide exceptional care alongside an exceptional lifestyle offering.”
Jayne Connery, Founder of Care Campaign for the Vulnerable, said: “Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is delighted to be sponsored by Signature Care Homes. After a successful collaboration with CCFTV on piloting independently monitored cameras across Signature at Reigate Grange’s dementia community, we see this provider has ‘walked the walk’ in committing to keeping vulnerable residents safe by adopting safety monitoring.
“CCFTV is therefore proud to be associated with and sponsored by the Signature Senior Lifestyle brand, and we hope more care providers recognise the need for greater transparency in care homes and will follow their exemplary lead.”
A relative of a Resident at Reigate Grange said: “The team at Reigate Grange are so passionate about the work they do and bring so much joy to the residents in the home. Knowing that my mother is now being supported by safety monitoring technology reassured me that everything possible is being done to promote their safety, dignity and wellbeing. It’s just a little bit of extra reassurance and peace of mind that builds on top of the wonderful care that is already being provided. I would encourage more care homes to follow Signature’s example and explore the use of safety monitoring. I’m so pleased that Signature is working to give more families the choice to access these services.”
