What Is Respite Care?

At Signature, we tend to make ‘respite care’ the umbrella term for both convalescent and respite care as both are similar in principle where the stay is short-term, sometimes in a residential care home. We offer convalescent care for people who need help recovering from a hospital stay or illness and respite care for those whose carer is resting or just not currently able to care for them

Respite care can include tasks such as getting dressed, washing, eating, taking medication and changing wound dressings. Some respite care facilities also offer help with rehabilitation, such as physical therapy.

You can find respite care homes that offer standard respite care, nursing home respite care and specialist respite care for people with more bespoke needs, such as those with dementia.

Here at Signature, we are committed to providing our guests with premium respite care that helps to support both their minds and bodies as they recover. With a team of professional and highly qualified nurses and carers, all of our respite residents are given the care and attention they need to make a full and speedy recovery.

What Are The Key Benefits Of Respite Care?

If you are looking after a family member following an illness or operation or as a long-term carer, you may be feeling overwhelmed, out of your depth and exhausted.

A respite break offers you the opportunity to give your loved one the care they need in a safe and comfortable environment.

As well as peace of mind, respite care is also designed to aid recovery and support the healing process. Our residents not only benefit from around-the-clock professional care, but they are also provided with nutritiously balanced meals that are carefully created to help them maintain good health.

The convalescent part of our respite care helps residents to retain their independence during recovery from an illness or operation, with a wide range of daily activities on offer that are tailored to suit all mobility abilities and keep residents active and stimulated. This approach to care can help improve overall well-being and make it easier for respite residents to return home.

If you are a carer who is struggling to look after a loved one, either in regard to short or long-term care, then a respite care home can provide you with the break you need to recharge your batteries and take care of yourself. Designed to relieve the pressure and stress of caring for a relative, a respite care service with us allows both the person being cared for and the carer to have time apart, which can be highly beneficial for both parties.

Respite care is often a better choice than a home carer for people returning from a hospital stay, as it helps to prevent social isolation and can actively speed up the recovery process.

Testimonials From Our Residents’ Loved Ones

Read on to find out what some of our former residents and their loved ones have to say about their experiences with Signature and decide if we are the right fit for you and your family.

“Exceptional service in trying times. My mother is doing much better having been moved to this facility to start rehabilitation from a hip operation and illness. She is being treated as an individual with individual needs and may be able to make it back to independent living because of this. Nothing is too much trouble and I only wish I had found this facility a few weeks ago when time was on our side. It is the perfect place to recuperate. I would recommend anyone recovering from an operation to opt for this service instead of home carers if finances allow.”

“The various activities were all well-documented in a bright and colourful magazine, and I took part in everything offered. The meals were delicious with well-trained waiters who encouraged me to taste a variety of foods. All members of the large staff are charming and were always on hand to offer advice and encouragement. I will return.”

“The team at Signature have all been amazing since my father came first for respite care and then as a permanent resident. Dad had only been here for one week before he decided he wanted to stay. He saw what excellent care could look like. As a registered nurse myself, I have been beyond impressed by both the nursing care and the input from carers. My father has trust in those caring for him. Every member of staff is cheerful, positive and nothing is too much trouble. My Dad is always treated with the utmost dignity.”

“From the receptionist onwards, everyone was wonderful – food was delicious, an utterly brilliant chef. They manage to create a wonderful atmosphere of a first-class hotel with a lot of personal attention and warmth.”
